Lightning and Power Outages

Did you know that lightning can not only cause a power outage, but it can also cause extensive damage to our electrical distribution facilities?

If contact is made, the lightning can travel through the pole to find a path to ground, often resulting in the pole to split into multiple pieces.

The below photo is an example of a pole in our service territory that was struck by lightning, that we went on to replace. The entire top has split open and you can see the split going all the way down the pole. If you ever notice anything like this after a storm, you should immediately report the same to our office during regular business hours or to our 24 Hour Emergency Call Center.
