If you have found that you have higher than expected consumption during any billing period, you can take a look around your home or in any outbuilding you have to take a look for items that have been left running or are plugged in which are not actively being used. Items that are plugged in but are not in use can still draw power and can contribute to higher overall consumption.

Below are two common items that people find draw higher consumption

then expected:

  • Space Heaters: Even if a space heater is temperature controlled during the colder months a single space heater can draw enormous amounts of electricity.

  • Vehicles or Equipment Plugged In: If you plug in your vehicle to keep it warm during the colder months, remember that your block heater will draw power for the entire time it is plugged in, unless you have a timer set to turn it on and off as required.
