This simple formula calculates how much energy the average energy efficient 500 watt washing machine that is used for two hours, twice a week, will use over the course of a month:

Watts / 1000 x Hours x Days in Month = kWh

Example: 500 Watts / 1000 x 2 x 8 = 8 kWh

An older washing machine that uses 1300 watts will consume the following amount of energy during the same period:

Watts / 1000 x Hours x Days in Month = kWh

Example: 1300 Watts / 1000 x 2 x 8 = 20.8 kWh
