Let free light and heat from the sun inside your home this winter.
Making sure heat doesn’t escape from your windows is important, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of the sun heating up your home and providing free light. Open your blinds or curtains for south-facing windows on sunny winter days.
In the evening, don’t forget to close them to lock in the free heat. In areas where your home doesn’t get much sun, especially in areas shaded from trees, keep your curtains and blinds closed.
We rely on electrical lighting during the long, dark winter nights. To help reduce your consumption, consider installing automatic timers, motion sensors and dimmers on your lights.
