Space Heater Consumption Calculator

Have you ever wondered how much power your space heater really uses? By using this simple formula, you can calculate the approximate consumption of your space heater. Watts / 1000 x Hours x Days in Month= kWh 1500 / 1000 x 24 x 31 = 1116 kWh If you have a space heater plugged in for 24 hours a day, for 31 days in a row, it would cause an overall increase in your consumption by 1,116 kwh.

Kitchen: Energy Saving Tips

Keep the following tips in mind, to possibly reduce your overall kitchen consumption. Be efficient with refrigeration: Keep your fridge and freezer at their ideal temperature. For your fridge this is between 2°C and 3°C and your freezer should be at -18°C. Unplug your second fridge: Unplug that second fridge or freezer that only has a couple of items in it, and find room in your current one to cut your consumption in half. Use the microwave: A microwave takes 15 minutes to do the same job as 1 hour in an oven. Use a microwave instead of your oven, to reheat leftovers or to speed up your overall cook time by defrosting meat and or vegetables.

Duct Tape is Not for DRAFTS

Duct tape is handy for a lot of things, but is not meant to effectively fix drafts. Researchers believe the adhesive is why duct tape fails as a sealant. When heating systems reach certain heats, the glue holding duct tape causes the tape to fall off leaving areas vulnerable to energy waste. Fix your drafts with caulking, weather stripping and or insulation and save your duct tape for other projects!

Do You Know What To Do In The Event of A Power Outage?

In the event of a power outage, one of the first things you should do, is check your breaker at the transformer pole to ensure it is UP and in the ON position. In the event that you check your breaker and it is DOWN and in the OFF position, all you may have to do in order to restore power is turn the breaker back into the ON position by flipping it UP. If you have checked your breaker and it is in the ON position, but you still have no power, please contact our Emergency Line 1-877-749-3655. Please ensure you have your Name and Legal Land Location available to ensure that we are able to respond to your outage.

Have You Ever Wondered How Electricity Gets To You?

Have you ever wondered how electricity gets to you and your home? The below four steps explain how the process works! 1. GENERATION: Electricity starts at a generator which can be powered by wind, water, or the burning of fossil fuels. 2. TRANSMISSION: The generated power travels through cables called transmission lines. These lines are part of the provincial power grid. 3. DISTRIBUTION: The electricity gets converted at a substation to a lower voltage and travels along REA owned distribution lines. 4. CONSUMPTION: The electricity passes through a customers transformer mounted on a pole to convert the voltage so it can be safely used in the home.

DRAFTS In Your Home

Did you know that drafts are one of the biggest causes of wasted energy in your home, and getting rid of them can reduce your overall consumption? The below methods can help identify pesky drafts in your home: Shut all windows, exterior doors, and fireplace flues, but leave all interior doors open. Turn on all exhaust fans that blow air outside, i.e. your clothes dryer, bathroom fans, or stove vents. Light an incense stick and pass it around the edges of common leak sites (electrical outlets, switch plates, door/window frames, attic hatches, vents, and pretty much anywhere else where two different materials meet).
